65th Birthday! π
Today is my Birthday and in two days I am retiring. The flood of feelings is so unexpected and a little bit overwhelming. I’ve been planning my retirement since last May. On paper is one thing but it’s actually here and my mind is racing. How do I say good bye to my old life? My days filled with hugs from my preschoolers. Laughing until I peed my pants from lunch conversations with my coworkers. Feeling a part of something bigger than myself. HOLY HELL this is way more than I expected.
What do I do next? Nothing can compare to an autistic child who shows little to no emotion coming up and laying his head on my shoulder and softly patting my back. I’m going to miss my old life so much it hurts. My only plan so far is to carry the hankie my daughter gave me on her wedding day. I get overly emotional at monumental moments. I’ll be clutching that thing for the next two days.
I’m the luckiest woman in the world to have had such a wonderful, special and fulfilling job! β€οΈ
