Is it normal to not have sex in a relationship?
I (21F) and my girlfriend (23F) have been in a relationship since June 2022, and we haven’t had sex in almost five months. In the beginning of our relationship, we used to have sex every week, at least, if not everyday. Then, at some point I took up three jobs alongside studying and she entered her final semester of degree and life got too overwhelming and stressful and tiring that we may have pushed sex down the priority list. I have initiated it a few times, but she’d always been too tired or she’d suggest we postpone it but we never actually get around to it. She also initiated it a few times, but I too rejected her because I was too tired or had a tiring or early day ahead and didn’t want to sleep in. But even without the sex, I feel like our relationship is still going strong. We still have intimacy, we cuddle every night, we hug first thing every day when she comes home from work, we still hold hands, go on dates and make out before sleep. I talked about it with my friend, but she said it’s crazy and she can’t even fathom not having sex with her partner for more than a week, and they’ve been together for over two and a half years. So that caused me to worry. Is it normal? Is our relationship dying?
EDIT: Thanks so much for the advice and reassurance, guys. We talked it out, and she felt the same. We’re putting much more effort into this, and I finally got laid again! Everything is working perfectly fine. Thanks guys for urging me to communicate. Talking is hard sometimes. Especially if it’s about your emotions.
