Can someone steal friends? Are my feelings justified if I feel like my friends are stolen?
I’m 32F. Some months ago, i met a girl through bumble BFF mode. We hit it off immediately and became good friends. We had a lot in common though not everything. I live in a small village and i’m alone most of the time, so it was nice to have a friend in town. We had many dinner dates and sleep overs and all and everything was great. This went on for about 3 months when I had to leave country for a month on a vacation.
Just before I left, I had a party where I invited my other group of friends and introduced her. We all had a nice time. But here is where it starts. While I was away, she hit up ALL my friends and made friends with them. She also called a few parties with ONLY my friends in attendance and none of her own. I also never met anyone who she knows and her circle. By the time I was back, she organized events with my friends and made plans also individually with people in the group.
Somehow, I am not comfortable about this. On the one hand I understand that I don’t own anyone, and they can hangout and do whatever. I also feel betrayed and not great at this whole turn of events. She also organized a birthday party with only my friends in attendance, none of hers because “they don’t match the vibe”. I am no longer comfortable hanging out with her. Funnily, I don’t even want to hang out with my other group of friends. I have a bitter taste in my mouth.
Are any of these feelings justified? Why do I even feel like this? She invited me to her parties too, but also hangs out with the others otherwise. WIERD!
