Alpo Posted October 18, 2019 Posted October 18, 2019 Tarzan Triumphant. 1932. Gunner is a Chicago hood who is wandering around Africa with Lafayette Smith, a geologist. Speaking of Lafe, he says to himself, “I seen pipies what ain’t as much of a nut as that guy; but,” he added, “he’s a regular guy at that. You can’t help likin’ him.” Pipies?? In Australia the pipi is a small shellfish, but that doesn’t seem to fit, and why would a 30s Chi-town hoodlum know about Aussie baitfish anywho?

J. Mark Flint #31954 LIFE Posted October 18, 2019 Posted October 18, 2019 Pip was slang for a difficult person to deal with. Pipies might be a plural of that I suppose

Colorado Coffinmaker Posted October 18, 2019 Posted October 18, 2019 Ha!! I got it. A Trix question. So …. just how many of us do you think were around in the 1930s?? That can still play CAS??

J. Mark Flint #31954 LIFE Posted October 18, 2019 Posted October 18, 2019 Maybe some of us have come back around a time or two. . .

Alpo Posted October 18, 2019 Author Posted October 18, 2019 Gunner thinks Lafe is kinda crazy – just wandering around in the jungle looking at rocks. And he doesn’t understand most of what Lafe says, but that’s all right. Lafe doesn’t understand most of what he says either. But he likes him. This one might apply. a person who acts like they know everything but actually knows nothing Or maybe this one. a real character; sometimes a pain in the ass Since he appears to be speaking derogatoritively (you s’pose that’s a word?) of people he knew in Chicago.
